We stayed for 2 nights in the Old Bakery Cottage in this well kept little complex. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable for our family of 4. Lindsey had… read more left us some milk and cookies, which was a really nice touch. The cottage is very well appointed and all the essentials (and more) were there. The location is quiet, but not isolated – easy walking distance to a shop and pub. 10 minutes by car to the Cannop Cycle Centre and lovely walks into the forest just across the road – I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy them more! Very highly recommended.

The terraced row of about four cottages are on one plot, with car parking space at the back, with covered, secure bike storage, as well as a cafe and pottery. The two-bedroom cottage we stayed in had a comfortable, cosy lounge, which made it feel like a home from home. There was a spacious shared bathroom with bath and shower. Both bedrooms had a good amount of space and very comfy beds. Though they faced out to the road, it was quiet. The style throughout was clean and modern, whilst retaining the cottages’s charm.
There was also a breakfast room and small kitchen, in the cottage. The hosts live on site and came in each morning at an agreed time to prepare and serve up a delicious cooked breakfast, with cereal, fruit, yoghurt, and preserves. They were very friendly and helpful with suggestions about the local area. We would definitely consider the House of Bread first if we were going to stay again in the area.

I highly recommend staying at the house of bread. Communication was brilliant right from the start. Check in process is contactless and easy. First impressions were great. I couldn’t believe… read more how clean the place was. My partner and I stayed at home cottage with our 2 dogs and we were all well catered for. The cottage has everything you would need for your stay. Katie and Charles have thought of everything, right down to little temporary dog tags in case your dogs get lost while walking. We also got the chance to book a beginners pottery course which was brilliant. Katie is a super chilled but very knowledgeable teacher. We would love to go back. I’ve seen some old posts about poor internet connection but it was fine on the ground level. We were easily able to het online and steam movies, etc. There are loads of walks nearby and plenty to do at Symonds Yat if you like a day on the water. More
June 18, 2021Just returned home from a week at Old Bakery Cottage at The House of Bread. This is an immaculate holiday home – with many small thoughtful touches to help our… read more stay. These are too numerous to mention, but included salt, pepper, dishwasher tablets, toiletries, toilet paper and kitchen towel, tea and coffee, a washing machine and soap and fabric conditioner plus a delicious home baked cake on arrival! Our hosts left us in peace, but were always at hand should we need anything and very friendly. The area is stunning – for walks, cycling and canoeing. We had never been to the Forest of Dean before but will definitely return! The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because the wifi was intermittent (which we were warned about) and although I personally thought this was bliss, our teenage son didn’t appreciate this! Having said that, the whole area is so rural it was difficult to get signal a lot of the time, so it is not the fault of the cottage directly. If you want a peaceful holiday back to nature and
outdoor activities all the family can share then this is the perfect place for you. There was even a log burner in the living room, but we didn’t need to use it (or any heating). Highly recommend this accommodation and thank you so much Katie and Charles!

The road is not busy – you hardy notice the few cars that pass – and the off-road parking area to the rear and bike storage (and washing!) facilities were a real added bonus.
It was lovely having the hens next door, not to mention the café and pottery on site too, although the weather was too good all week to use either much! The cottages themselves were lovely – we were in The Old Bakery which was light and airy, very warm, cosy and immaculately clean and well-maintained. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending these cottages to anyone looking for a comfortable base from which to explore the Forest of Dean. Katie and Charles were excellent friendly hosts (we particularly liked the home baking!) and made us feel very at home.

The House of Bread is a number of holiday cottages clustered around a pretty courtyard. The owners (Katie and Charles) are very warm and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. There is a nice outdoor seating area, plenty of off road parking and covered cycle parking too!
The accommodation is spacious, spotless, tastefully decorated and really comfortable: a real home from home. The owners have thought of everything, so it really didn’t take long for us to get settled in with a cup of tea and slice of their delicious home made cake that they had left for us – yum!
The breakfast was top notch. I’m not normally a big fan of cooked breakfasts, but these are not to be missed – truly superb quality and delicious – I ate the lot both days we stayed and enjoyed every mouthful!
The setting is really beautiful. Nice and quiet at night, but with a couple of excellent pubs within walking distance which are very reasonably priced and lively.
We cycled down the very steep hill to Symonds Yat on the Saturday to have a day out on the Wye kayaking, which was great fun! The cycle back up the hill was pretty beasting, but we all lived to tell the tale!
Unfortunately, after dragging ourselves back up the hill, my wife discovered she had left her driving licence (proof of identity) at the kayak hire office in Symonds Yat. We were not looking forward to cycling back up that cliff again, and were exceptionally touched when Charles kindly drove us down there to pick this up! So very kind!
Next time we come back to the area, we will most certainly stay again and would recommend to all!
